SKIT—SCRIPT
( Stage can be considered as a house in a village of Kerala. A small family consisting of father(Balu), mother and a girl child, Malu. Balu is reading a newspaper. Malu approaching him and says, “ Acha, I wish to see Lord Ayyappa. This time I will also come with you .”
Balu- No, molu, you see, there is big fight between devotees . How can we go now? It is not safe at all. “
Malu- Don’t say like that, Acha . I love to see the diety
Balu- You have to take “vritha “ for 41 days. Can’t eat meat or fish and not even egg
Malu- No problem. I will do
Balu- But, molu ,it is not at all safe now
Malu- I know well, nothing will happen, God will help us.
(Mother coming with a cup of tea )
Mother- See Baluvetta, now a days, she always telling about Ayyappa only. You take her this time. Now she is only nine. “Save Sabarimala people” will not object her entry. Later ,it may be a problem .
Balu- Ok, agreed.
(Malu hugs Balu and Mother and says “Thank you so much”
(Voice- After 41 days , all preparations were done and they are ready with irumudi and heading towards Sabarimala)
Mother –( blesses daughter ) All the best Molu. God will grant you all blessings and protect you from evils.
(With chants of “Swamiyae Ayyappo, Ayyappo Swamiyae” both are moving )
(They reached Pampa. Can hear the sound of the flowing river)
Balu- Molu, this is Pampa – the devotional river and that hill is Sabarimala. You have to climb all the way to reach the abode of Ayyappa
Malu- I am ready for that Acha.
( One person enters .He is in black cloths and has a writing “Save Sabarimala” in his kurtha )
Devotee – Hello, who are you?
Balu – I am a devotee
Devotee- Ok, who is she ?
Balu- She is my daughter
Devotee- What is her age?
Balu – she is nine
Devotee- Show me the identity card
( Balu takes a card and giving the same to him . He looks on the card, then on malu and Balu and smiles. Then, changes his face with anger and says “ No, she can’t enter the steps “ )
Balu – why not?
Devotee- See her date of birth. It is 1.11.2008. That means today her age is 10. We will not allow you to pollute the temple. My friends, chant the mantras.
( Back ground – chanting by Chorus – “ Swamiyae ayyappo ayyappo swamiyae “—it continues . 2 persons enter. One is a police officer and another is a devaswom staff . Malu cries )
Balu – ( try to pacify her ) Don’t cry molu. I will explain the fact to them . you will get permission. Don’t be panic
Malu – I want to see Ayyappa, I am a devotee .
Devotee- Don’t pour tears in this sacred place. It is the garden of Ayyappa , stop it
Police – Don’t behave like this to a child , man . What is the problem?
Devotee- See , her birthday is today. Till yesterday, she was nine, now ,she is ten. We can’t allow her entry to the hills. You can take her only by crossing our bodies . We are here to maintain the sanctity of Sabarimala.
Staff – See, if there is any dispute , we can discuss and solve. No need to fight for the safety of God. Molu, you can sit in the office, we will discuss and finalize. Please go inside.
Balu- Molu, be brave, don’t be panic. Please sit there , I will come soon.
(She is going inside. They meet the Tantri and discussion continues )
Devotee- Ayyappan doesn’t permit the ladies aged between 10 and 50. Till yesterday ,its OK, now the situation changed , she is 10.
Police- It is just a matter of a day, you should understand.
Devotee- A day or a second is not a matter. We have to save our Ayyappa.
Staff – You stop argue , Tantri will tell
Tantri ( emotionally)- What the girl’s father tells is right. But this can’t be solved on the basis of emotions. We can’t disturb the sanctity of the deity. If we permit one, then, have to permit others also.
(Discussion continues , action only . Voice- “The debate continued for hours and finally Tantri denied the entry. The desperate father came back to the office to say sorry to his daughter , but she was not there. Panicky he came back )
Balu – Where is my daughter? ( looking to devotee ) Are your people kidnapped her ?
Dev- No, no, we will not do that
Balu ( to police )-- Sir, please help. Find out my daughter
Police – Don’t be panic , we can search ( He is announcing “ One girl is missing, police force, be alert , make search and find her . Her name is Malu. Common, quick “ .)
(Sound of police march . Suddenly Malu enters with a smile in her face )
Malu- Acha
Balu – (with happiness ) Molu, where have you gone?
Malu – Acha, I went to Sabarimala, crossed 18 steps and saw the deity, spent some time there and came back
Balu/ Dev/ Police/Staff/ tantry – (together ) How?
Malu- While I am sitting at the office, Lord Ayyappa came and asked me, would you like to see the deity. I said ,yes. Then we moved together to the top of the hill, saw the deity and spent some time there. While on return , he said he pains on all wrong doings on his name. He loves to see all people irrespective of age, gender or religion at any time any day. Then, he said , he loves to see the calmness of the forest. He asked me to give his message to devotees to plant more trees , ask Government to stop constructions and limit entry of devotees per day to maintain peace and serenity. He says, open the temple on all days and ensure all devotees should plant a sapling every year and ensure it grows.
( All are stunned , stops the bhajans and pin drop silence )
Voice – “No more war in the name of Lord Ayyappa . we can reconstruct our state with full of greenery and can make it Ayyappan’s Poonkavanam “
