Trump, Who Brings Discomfort to the World (Final Part)

Donald Trump took over
the leadership of the family business and transformed the Trump Organization
into a company catering to the high-end real estate market. Possessing a sharp
business instinct, he steadily expanded into hotels, private clubs, golf courses,
and casinos. The political gamble Trump is playing today may also stem from his
tendency to view the world as one vast casino.
In 1987, Tony
Schwartz published Trump's success story in the book The Art of the Deal,
which remained on The New York Times bestseller list for 48 weeks. In
1996, Trump acquired and organized the Miss Universe pageant. In 2004, he
became the host of NBC's hugely successful reality television show The
Apprentice. His catchphrase, "You're fired," used while
eliminating contestants, became part of American popular culture. Two decades
later, Trump continues to point at world leaders and, figuratively, say,
"You're fired."
Trump has repeatedly
turned his own setbacks into opportunities for success. Yet, in the process, he
has also created complex situations affecting billions of people around the
world. The businessman in him often appears to enjoy high-stakes confrontation.
His strict upbringing and the years he spent in military school, where his
independent spirit was tightly disciplined, may have left lasting emotional
scars. Those experiences perhaps find expression in many aspects of his
personality and leadership.
Trump's personal life
has also been turbulent. He has five children from three marriages. After two
divorces, he married his current wife, Melania, in 2005. It is often said that
a nation should judge a leader not by his personal life but by his actions in
public office. That is generally true. However, when the personal traits of a
ruler begin to influence the destiny of his own country and the rest of the
world, they inevitably become matters of public concern. That, many believe, is
what has happened during the Trump era.
Although Trump's
political ambitions existed as early as the 1980s, they gained real momentum
after 2010. He formally announced his presidential candidacy in June 2015 and
captured public attention with the slogan, "Make America Great
Again." He was elected the 45th President of the United States in
2016.
However, after
disappointing many ordinary Americans and immigrants during his first term,
Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden. It appeared as though
there was a child within him unwilling to accept defeat. Perhaps it was that
instinct that led him to encourage his supporters to challenge the election
results, culminating in the unrest that followed. Although that effort failed,
he remained the undisputed leader of the Republican Party.
In 2024, many voters,
dissatisfied with the Biden administration, returned Trump to the presidency.
His second term has so far been marked by the extensive use of executive
orders, shifts in trade tariff policies, active intervention in both domestic
and international affairs, and the decision to join Israel in military action
against Iran. These developments have generated widespread debate and concern.
While much of the
world anxiously wonders what will come next, Trump continues to display an
assertive and often uncompromising style of leadership. He may apologize on one
occasion and react angrily on another, but the recurring pattern of such
behaviour has become one of the defining features of his presidency.
Trump continues to
expand his business empire while, critics argue, spreading uncertainty across
the world through the power of his office. The attack on Iran and the positions
he has adopted afterwards now hang over humanity like a nuclear cloud. A world
leader shaped by an unsettled childhood, an unconventional lifestyle, and often
unpredictable words and actions has made the simple lives of ordinary people
increasingly complicated.
We are all, in one way
or another, caught in the web of that complexity.
